Coach Ryan Oubre
From New Orleans to CrossFit Rx

Ryan Oubre’s fitness journey began in the vibrant city of New Orleans, Louisiana, where he grew up playing every ball sport he could get his hands on. As a high school athlete, Ryan’s love for football led him to discover the world of weightlifting. Competing in the state weightlifting meet during his senior year helped him build a foundation of strength, setting the stage for his future in fitness. In college, Ryan’s competitive spirit stayed alive as he joined club sports teams, enjoying the camaraderie and active lifestyle.

Coaching CrossFit for the past four years, Ryan found his true calling not just in the workouts, but in the people. “I truly enjoy community and love seeing people accomplish things they didn’t think were possible,” he shares. For Ryan, coaching is about breaking down the walls of intimidation and frustration that CrossFit can bring. His favorite moments are watching members surprise themselves with what they’re capable of, all while pushing through barriers with patience and consistency.

When it comes to his own CrossFit favorites, Ryan gravitates toward high-skill gymnastics and weightlifting movements. Workouts like "Barbara" and "Cindy" are where he feels most at home, thriving in the challenge of bodyweight movements and endurance. But don’t let his love for technical skills fool you—he knows the value of the basics. His advice to new members is simple but powerful: “Stay the course. Patience and consistency beat fast gains every time.”

Ryan’s passion for fitness and community extends to his time at CrossFit Rx, where he’s a proud coach of the 5:30 and 6:30 crews. “Everyone works hard, stays humble, and is dedicated to taking charge of their own health,” he says. It’s this dedication that inspires him every day as a coach. Whether he’s helping someone get their first pull-up or guiding them toward a bar or ring muscle-up, Ryan thrives on the progress and breakthroughs of his athletes.

A personal milestone Ryan holds close to his heart is competing at Beach Brawl as an individual last year. While he’s participated in numerous team competitions, stepping onto the floor alone was a different kind of challenge. “I’m a pretty confident individual, but I can’t lie—I was nervous every time the countdown hit 3-2-1-go,” he admits. It’s an achievement that pushed him out of his comfort zone and made him a stronger athlete and coach.

When Ryan isn’t coaching or working out, he’s likely reconnecting with his flag football roots. In college, Ryan’s team won two national championships, a legacy he continues to celebrate with an annual reunion trip to compete in tournaments and catch up with old friends. It’s a tradition that highlights the sense of community and camaraderie that Ryan values so deeply—on and off the gym floor.

Whether he’s coaching you through a tough WOD or helping you nail that first muscle-up, Ryan Oubre’s passion, expertise, and dedication shine in everything he does. Next time you see him at CrossFit Rx, don’t hesitate to ask him about his flag football glory days or how to tackle that next big fitness goal!
