Katie O'Brien
Coach, CrossFit Rx
From: Endicott, New York

Katie has been coaching CrossFit since July 2019, but her fitness journey began much earlier. Growing up, she played soccer and participated in synchronized swimming, but it was during her undergrad years that she discovered a passion for obstacle course racing, which ultimately led her to CrossFit. Outside of CrossFit, she enjoys bouldering, running, and hiking.

Katie’s career in fitness started in 2015 as a spin instructor, followed by becoming a certified personal trainer in 2016. After experiencing the supportive CrossFit community, she decided to get her Level One certification to help make fitness more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

Her favorite CrossFit movement is cycling clean and jerks, and her key advice to new members is: "Scaling is key to making progress! Train with optimal form and full range of motion, and you'll get stronger and fitter faster."

Katie enjoys the diversity of coaches at CrossFit Rx and how much everyone cares about the athlete experience. A personal achievement she's proud of is regaining her ability to do large sets of strict pull-ups after recovering from two shoulder surgeries.

With a background in anatomy, physiology, and neuroscience, Katie brings a unique perspective to coaching, combining her fitness knowledge with her Ph.D. in Teaching and Learning.

Fun Fact: Katie started her career as a music teacher and sees many parallels between teaching fitness and music!
