CrossFit is best described as a strength and conditioning program based on “constantly varied, functional movement, performed at high intensity”. This approach combines the most effective training principles from a variety of sports, including gymnastics, weight lifting, and running, to best prepare people for any physical task. CrossFit defines fitness as increased work capacity across ten recognized fitness domains, including: cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, and accuracy. And because the needs of Olympic athletes and every other person (like you, me, children, grandparents) differ only by degree, not kind, all CrossFit workouts are designed for universal scalability. In other words, CrossFit is appropriate for anybody willing to learn something new and work hard.
Ladies Only CrossFit
CrossFit recognizes that the functional needs of women, men, and kids vary by degree, not by kind. CrossFit RX offers a “Ladies Only” class because we’ve found that some women find it easier to focus on their workouts, push their limits, and compete with themselves in the presence of other women. But make no mistake…this is no “watered-down” or “easy” CrossFit class…the programming for the CFRX Ladies class is just as challenging as that in our co-ed classes, and can be modified according to each athlete’s abilities. All levels are appropriate and accommodated in this class.
Masters 50+ CrossFit
Our CrossFit Masters Class is for athletes 50+ years of age. CrossFit is probably the most versatile, modifiable approach to fitness in the world and is the perfect way to “stay in the game” of life. Our Masters workouts include a focus on mobility and stretching as well as light cardio and resistance training performed at the highest intensity that each individual can sustain with good form and technique, which is taught and reinforced throughout class. These workouts will challenge you both physically and mentally, yet are tailored to meet you where you are as an athlete…regardless of age, this is simply the best way to gain strength, stay flexible, and avoid injury.
