Pull-Up Ladder

With a continuously running clock do one pull-up the first minute, two pull-ups the second minute, three pull-ups the third minute… continuing as long as you are able.

Use as many sets each minute as needed.

Post number of minutes completed to comments.

SweatyBench

Found this on CrossFit Flood; they use the Filthy Fifty as an example, but I think this is true of ANY CrossFit WOD!

The 7 stages of Crossfit WOD acceptance:

1. Shock: Initial paralysis at hearing the bad news. “Filthy Fifty?!? What the heck is that? 50 reps each of 10 exercises? That’s 500 reps!!”

2. Denial stage: Trying to avoid the inevitable. “That can’t be right. Maybe there was a mistake… It’s a joke, right? We’re really just going to do something easy, like Fran.”

3. Anger stage: Frustrated outpouring of bottled-up emotion. “Wait.. 50 burpees? That’s crazy. Crossfit is stupid… they can’t expect people to actually do this stuff, it’s too hard. I should just go back to the globo gym”

4. Bargaining stage: Seeking in vain for a way out. “I promise if I skip today I’ll go to every workout next week.”

5. Depression stage: Final realization of the inevitable. “I guess I really should go. It’s not like I have anything else going on today, and I didn’t make all this progress by skipping workouts.”

6. Testing stage: Seeking realistic solutions. “OK, I’ll go but I might have to scale some of these. 50 double unders would take me at least half an hour.”

7. Acceptance stage: Finally finding the way forward. “I can’t wait to get out of work so I can do this workout! It’s going to be hard but I know I’ll feel like I really accomplished something when I’m done”

  1. Wow, I wonder when stage 7 will get to me . . . I think I will hang out at stage 6 for a while longer til it approaches :}

  2. This morning I did “Linda” – scaled the weights down considerably but at least I got through all the reps and it felt like a good workout. (I weigh 128.) It was my first time to do this and I needed a good bit of practice on the squat cleans.

  3. Nice meeting you Laura and Paige. Paige, you were going strong when I left!

I did the pullup ladder with a green band:
    9 rounds + 5 pullups

  4. Pull-up ladder: 10 rounds + 4
up from 8 rounds and change last time

  5. pullup ladder: first time rx!

    8 rounds, plus 7

    • hooray for goin Rx Hwang…and 8 rounds at that! Nice job ;-)

      • thanks so much for the encouragement!!! :)

    • Great job!!! Never doubted you for a sec…okay, one sec. But just one.

  6. that Linda is a real B#@&…
37 and change on the time

then i went home and threw up…not fun

  7. Who was I talking to yesterday about Vibrams? I had mentioned an article Rad had forwarded to me…anyhoo, here’s the link just in case anyone is interested!

    http://www.crunchgear.com/2009/08/10/review-vibram-five-fingers-classic/

    • it was me…i’ll consider it for my next shoe purchse

    • and here’s some of the Vibrams slated to come out next year…

      notice the thicker tread!

      • Funny you guys linked to birthdayshoes.com (that’s my site!) — CrossFitRX is a ten minute walk from me!

        • Really! That’s so funny! You should come check us out sometime :)

          • One of these days … just like one of these days I’m going to get over to Wallcrawlers. Just had a baby though so so much for free time!

I have peeked in on going to Sunday brunch at Radial.

  8. Workout in the “sauna” next to the hotel gym…the ceiling was too low in the gym for thrusters.

    4 rounds

    15 dumbell thrusters (40#)
    20 burpees

    13:50

I’m still amazed by the amount of work you can complete within a CF workout…should have seen the reaction of some of the people who passed by.

  9. As I’ve said before, La Mar you are a machine!!

    9 rounds + 9, red band, 54 total.
Still rehabbing the shoulder but feeling pretty good.

  10. I planned to make it and seek realistic solutions to accomplishing this workout, but I have to get a report out end of day Denver time. I still have almost an hour. Hope to be in tomorrow.

    • don’t you hate when the day job gets in the way ~ on the other hand we are all pretty fortunate to be working – hope to see you tomorrow !

  11. Surprised myself…I was hoping for 12 rounds and ended up getting 15 rounds+10. Up 5 rounds from last time. :-)

    • you’re my pullup hero.

  12. 15 rounds + 13 pull-ups

EXACTLY the same as the last time I did this, which was back in November. HOWEVER, I am 13 pounds heavier now than I was then, so in a way I am considering this to be a PR ;)

    • I’d say a massive PR…13#s and a sub-optimal shoulder. Impressive. Points for pushing hard! You are inspiring!!

  13. Had to do this one at home with a doorway pull up bar and it was too low to kip. I got to find a better pull up bar outside the gym.

    11 +8

  14. 13 rounds + 11. Thought that was good until I saw Amarinthia’s score — way to go, Sting!

Think the last time we did these I used rubber bands and got maybe 6 or 7 rounds. Feels good to see how far you can come in 6 months.

  15. I hear you Mike. Did this RX.
    9 Rounds plus 8.

I have been off the bands for less than a month, so I am happy about this score. Not so happy about Front Squats later today. Linda really is making her presence known today on me.

  16. 10 rounds plus 7 (rx)

  17. 13 rounds plus 10. Sting was awesome!

  18. 8/17…

    14 rounds + 12 reps = 117 (+42PR)
