A terrific new documentary, “Food, Inc.,” playing in cinemas nationwide, offers a powerful and largely persuasive diagnosis of American agriculture. Go see it, but be warned that you may not want to eat for a week afterward.
(It was particularly unnerving to see leftover animal bits washed over with ammonia and ground into “hamburger filler.” If you happen to be eating a hamburger as you read this, I apologize.)
“The way we eat has changed more in the last 50 years than in the previous 10,000,” Michael Pollan, the food writer, declares in the film.
What’s even more eerie is the way animals are being re-engineered. For example, most Americans prefer light meat to dark, so chickens have been redesigned to produce more white meat by growing massive breasts that make them lopsided. Who knew that breast augmentation was so widespread in chicken barns? [read entire article]

Food,Inc. is showing at the Landmark Midtown I almost went to see it saturday – if anyone wants to go give me shout andlets make a plan!
Ruth – I’d like to see it, but I’m traveling through Wednesday… If you haven’t seen it this weekend, maybe we can go… Ugh! Wish me luck on working out while traveling:)
Hi Jane – ok, let’s go this weekend. Perhaps some other CFRX’ers will join in!
I will check and make sure it will still be showing.
Ok, they can’t say how long it will be showing. It should at least be there through this Thursday- beyond that, who knows…
Let me know if you are game for a week night after you get back.
Ruth

I felt slow today.
As Rx’d

Ditto on the feeling slow; the heat and humidity is ridiculous, and it’s not even July yet! I felt like I should have been able to get closer to my regular Helen time. First time doing HSPUs in almost a month because I’ve been resting my shoulder.
Substitution: 12 knee pike p/u and 24 sec handstand hold. After Damon yelled at me a bunch, I finally was able to actually do a handstand! Yay. Now just have to work on the push up part.

Thursday movie and dinner sounds good. Landmark does not have times posted for thursday yet – stay tuned…
