For anyone who’s ever adopted a new diet plan for weight loss or overall health, it’s a familiar nightmare. The backdrop varies (an all you can eat buffet, holiday party, dark and silent kitchen in the middle of the night), but the suspense is universal. The temptation, a mental struggle, the cautious scanning of the room. A subliminal background track climbs in crescendo. You give into the slightest slip, a minor indiscretion, really, and suddenly there you are, dropping through a trap door, plummeting down a dark, cavernous shoot, screaming in terror, only to fall into a sorry heap of shame at the fiery center of the earth (or other subconscious setting for doom or disgrace).

Though the vision itself is imaginary, the performance anxiety is often real. “Will I measure up?” “Can I hack it?” “How can I be that strict 100% of the time?” Questions (and doubts) abound for many as they contemplate a diet and lifestyle overhaul, including the Primal Blueprint. Perfectionism, the letter of the law, looms large in these moments. [keep reading]

  1. Great timing on that article Laura. I have been back on the Primal diet since last saturday – I have had a little cheese twice, and this morning my iced coffee was a 60/40 mix of unsweet/sweet coffee. Not bad. I think I am safely withing the 80/20 split. And it really isn’t that difficult. just a matter of making the decision.

    • Yay Ruth!!!

    • Yay Ruth, too!

  2. Four rounds for time of:
    Run 400 meters
    50 Squats
    6 lb. vest. 30:44

    • Steve LOVES running!

  3. Did a modification of the modification due to stupid tennis elbow. 80 thrusters (43#), 80 ring rows, 80 knees to elbows. Took me 36.5 minutes.

I suffered much anguish, did some whining, and directed a couple of raspberries at Damon. He suggested I channel the energy coming from my mouth into my workout. (Helpful!) Near the end I yelled, “This is the worst workout EVER!!” which seemed to discourage some of the people who were warming up. My apologies.

    See everyone tomorrow!!

  4. 35:07

First transition from HSPUs to Thrusters was a bear…shoulders were dead. Noticed that my elbows were not open enough during Thrusters so need to keep form in mind in future.

    • hahaha! It wasn’t just that first transition…that WHOLE WORKOUT was a bear! ;)

  5. As Rx’d
    HSPU head to ground
    80lb thrusters
    L pulls on rings

    26:18

    • so Laura was worried when she saw that it took me awhile to get through the wod then she completes it 9 minutes shorter than I did…just a reminder that I have soooooo far to go

  6. these twins sure sound like real b@#!chs…im heading out of town – see y’all next week!

on a happier note, my back is almost all better! hooray!

  7. Did pike pushups instead of HSPUs (after a generally unsuccessful attempt to do modified HSPUs, with feet on a bar). Struggled through the thrusters @ 76# and l-pullups on rings.
    34:00

One of my least favorite WODs to date. On a brighter note, one of my favorites WODs – Michael – came up today and I hope to be back in this evening to give it a try.

  8. 26:03

Modified HSPUs with feet on bar
    Thrusters @ 71 lbs
    L-pullups on rings

Exhausting (but I kinda liked it)! L-pullups on rings were the worst part.

  9. 31:?? By far one of the hardest wod I’ve done as I begin my 5th mos of xfit!
