For time:
30, 25, 20, 15, 10, and 5 rep rounds of:
Virtual Shoveling [Mac users; here's a .mov]
Push-ups

With an Olympic bar holding only one plate (men use 45 pound plate, women use 25 pound plate), touch the plate on one side of the barrier then the other for one “rep.” Barrier is 24.”

Hey, CrossFit FireBase in Orlando, Florida…Lauren wanted to let you know that yes, she was still hitting WODs even though she’s away visiting the ATL this week! She didn’t want you to think she was just up here slacking off, so here’s the proof! :)

  1. The “Olympic Bar” would be the men’s/blue bars…
For the men: 20kg plate is 44#; add the little black 1# plate for a total of 45#…
For the ladies: you can use five 5# plates to make the “shovel” smaller in diameter than using the large kg bumpers…

  2. Um, whole school (and interested peoples from other schools) parent nights when I have to present make me a little anxious and aren’t really my favorite way to spend a Tuesday evening after being in the classroom with children all day. However, I can pretty much be assured that it will beat the pants off of virtual shoveling. I win.

  3. Here’s a helpful tip from CrossFit Atlanta:

Keep your back flat, and use your legs to move the virtual shovel by lunging and rising. Your arms should remain straight. If you use your arms or your back to do the lifting, you are doing it wrong, doing it the hard way, and you will definitely feel it. Watch the video.

  4. REALLY didn’t want to do this one, but I did. 5K (thank you for that, Damon), 16:10.

  5. Yuck.

I think I did it the “hard” way though I can’t imagine lunging makes it not “hard.”

Damon explained the point of this exercise, and it all sounded good – core strength, mid-something mobility, shoulders and chest. But to me, it felt like a bad version of yard work or shoveling snow, two things I have managed to avoid in my lifetime.

A little over twenty minutes, 7.3K, modified push ups.

  6. I wonder if anyone else has had the “Earl Has to Die” song stuck in their head since doing this workout.

  7. offspring’s schedule kept me out today, so this one was improvised at home…
22# bar with 20# plates back and forth over a 25-inch high suitcase.
5 pushups in each round unmodified.
    19:13.

  8. What?!? KC did virtual shoveling at home? That deserves some sort of CrossFit prize. Wow.

I didn’t do yesterday’s workout at home. I didn’t even consider it. I didn’t even pretend to consider it.

    You go, ‘cake!

  9. thanks, QF!

  10. oops…a day late posting:

    45# bar + 25# on one end
    24″ barrier
    2 touches = 1 rep

    20:45

  11. oops, I guess I should have specified, also did it as 2 touches=1 rep (left then right of barrier=1 rep)…thought that was what we were supposed to do.
also, did all the pushups, just that 5 of them each time were unmodified.

  12. KC, two touches was/is what was requested, so you did fine.

Thought I would surely smoke this one….not so much, I got roughed up!! I don’t think I’m as strong as I was this summer, something is up:-(

    As Rx (20kg bar w/ 45lb plate)
    26:48

  13. Way to go Bam Bam! Big ups from CFFBO!
