  1. Laura & Damon,
I drove by your place the other night and I saw your sign hanging outside. It looks awesome. I hope to come by sometime soon to get a workout in with you guys.

Btw Laura I hope you are attempting today’s workout as Rx’d. It’s time to take off those training wheels (jumping muscle-ups).

    See ya’ll soon.

  2. I choose a 15K instead.

  3. Hey guys – so good to stop by yesterday and see the new space and both of you! Congratulations. I’ll be sure to come work out one of these days soon!

  4. You’re right…those flyers look great. I apologize in advance just in case we end up with something looking similar. So how is everything going?

  5. That’s BGI-Tommy by the way.

  6. Thanks Tommy, make sure you come inside next time. I’m the ONLY guy here….Well, I guess that’s not such a bad thing :-)

Previous best 30 MU time is 11:36. Wasn’t really into doing the muscle ups today so I chose the alternate….fun ;-)

    12 Rounds For Time:
    10 Pull Ups
    10 Bar Dips
    27:23

  7. Tommy Gun, I stopped doing jumping MU’s a long time ago! I don’t think they help get you any better for a real muscle up. Earlier this year I started doing rowing MU’s, and not too long after that I got my first real MU (in May). I strongly discourage folks from relying too much on jumping MU’s to get better, just like jumping pull-ups don’t help you get a real pull-up, you know?

  8. Now, with all that being said, I think muscle-ups are annoying. They:
-are a technique-driven, not strength-driven exercise (crap. there goes my advantage!)
-punish the tall and/or heavy athlete (myself)

    Add to that:
-I haven’t been able to practice them all of July because we didn’t have a set-up at CFRX on which to do muscle-ups.
-I’m completely backwards in that I default to doing fairly strict muscle-ups; I’m not as coordinated with the kip.

So today, I didn’t really have any expectations. I figured I’d get some muscle-ups, do some pull-ups and dips, but didn’t have a goal or anything. We rigged up the rings on climbing rope hung from the ceiling (a few stories up, which I think makes it a little more challenging). I tested it, got a muscle-up fine, and figured things were good.

Got my first 10 muscle-ups easy in less than 9 minutes. Full extension at the bottom and everything! Shocked the crap out of myself, since I hadn’t worked on them in forever. Got 3 more. Cool! Now, I started getting fatigued and tried to kip the muscle-up…denied!

NOTE: IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO KIP ON BOINGY, BOUNCY ROPE!

Many expletive-filled minutes later, I resigned myself to finishing the workout with more strict muscle-ups, begun with my toes on a box behind me. Very unhappy. We have to figure out a way to hang the rings in a way that we can kip into the muscle-up…

  9. Way to GO girl!!!

…And who cares??!! YOU CAN DO A FREAKING MUSCLEUP! (now all this bitchin’ & moaning & analyzing SHEEZE! hahaha) It’s not cerebral woman, it’s spiritual lol as in, if everything’s not in harmony — strength, technique, focus, mind, & heart — it aint happening. Boingy rings or not.
That is a very good job on your first attempt at the 30! Next time, none of this “aint really got a goal” thang — next time, there will be a goal. You did a dang 15k the other day. Next time, you will be able to do 30. One. At. A. Time. I KNOW IT!! ;)
After all, you’re in a club. Represent. (hehe)

    xxoo muh

  10. Okay, Spiritual Zen Master Kath, you’re right. Harmony and focus and stuff has never been something I’m known for, LOL! Don’t get me wrong, I am thrilled I got those 13 MU’s today so easily (I got one in the warm-up, too, so I’m calling it 14!). It was a million times easier than it has ever been before, and I haven’t even practiced in a month! I’ll get the 30 next time, especially since I’m going to make sure the rings are hung right as soon as possible!

Now go get a PR on this one, muscle-up master grrrl!

  11. The only way I kept up with it (when my goal was 1-a-day) was the TreX being the circus master and whenever he toured a newbie/guest he’d pull his puppet strings and cajole me into doing it for them. Like a little trained monkey HAHAHAHAHA
(maybe more like a trained cougar LOL LOL that sounds better)
